Restricted key systems

The MLAA and its industry partners have developed and hold the IP for a range of restricted key systems and profiles available for the Australian and New Zealand locksmith industry. These products have been developed to give MLAA Business Members access to high quality, secure and affordable restricted key systems. They are offered in partnership with select Trade Members, who manufacture and supply hardware to members.

Restricted key systems are available to MLAA Business Members under a license agreement. The MLAA's trademarked triangular head is used for all key profiles.

To apply for access to any of the MLAA restricted key systems, please contact the Support Office at national@masterlocksmiths.com.au.

MLAK

The Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) is a unique and innovative system that uses a universal lock and key to allow people with disabilities to access dedicated public facilities 24 hours a day. It was developed to help increase the availability of accessible, clean and functioning public facilities for people who don’t always have the luxury of using standard facilities.

The MLAK program was launched in 1994, as a joint venture between the Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia (MLAA), Pittwater Council and ACROD.

The MLAK system uses an Australian-made restricted key and lock barrel that is only available via MLAA locksmiths. The system can be made to work with just about any type of locking mechanism in Australia.

The MLAK system is widely used throughout Australia. It has been installed at railway stations, accessible toilets and Changing Places facilities, as well as adaptive playground equipment such as the Liberty Swing.

Who can use MLAK?

Access to MLAK keys is restricted to persons who have a disability, or who have suitable written authority. The general public can order MLAK keys here.

All MLAA Business Members are permitted to stock and sell MLAK keys (which can be purchased from the MLAA at a discounted rate), and to install MLAK systems.

To learn more, read the MLAK brochure.

NZ Series

NZ Series is New Zealand’s very own high-security restricted profile.

NZ Series incorporates the latest security features in mechanical restricted keying systems, with anti-bump, anti-pick and anti-drill options. The multi-broach keyway allows NZ Series systems to be used for both residential and commercial applications, from a basic restricted keyed-alike system to a complex master keyed system with multiple users and multiple locations.

An extensive range of barrels means that NZ Series can be used for just about every locking application, making it ideal for both new and retro-fit applications.

Another feature of NZ Series is the availability of both key blanks and barrels on the master profile, allowing for even more flexibility in the design of keying systems.
