NZ Trade Test 2025

The NZ Trade Test is a comprehensive, hands-on assessment designed to evaluate a locksmith’s skills across a range of practical and theoretical tasks. It’s an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise in real-world locksmithing scenarios, covering areas such as:

• Master keying
• Safe diagnostics (mechanical and electronic)
• Lock fitting
• Picking and impressioning
• Automotive locksmithing

Why take the trade test?

This test ensures that locksmiths meet industry standards, and is required to gain certification and recognition as a Master Locksmith. Passing the test shows your proficiency and ability to handle complex tasks, providing confidence to employers and clients in your abilities.

Certification

Upon passing the test, you will receive certification from the Master Locksmiths Association, which will enhance your credentials and increase your professional opportunities.

Test Details

The test consists of various modules, with each assessing different aspects of locksmithing. You’ll need to complete practical tasks within specific time limits, using your own tools and equipment (with some provided). To pass, you must achieve at least 50% in each module and a total score of 75% or higher overall.

• Test Duration: 6 hours of task time, spread across an 8-hour period (including breaks).
• Total Points Available: 425.
• Passing Requirement: Minimum 50% in each module, and at least 75% overall (319 points).
