Membership Requirements

The Association will need to review and approve the following documents before you can join or renew as a Member of the Master Locksmiths Association. 

Please have digital versions of relevant documents ready to upload when completing your application or renewal form.

NOTE: By submitting a membership application to the Master Locksmiths Association, applicants agree to abide by the Association’s Constitution and By-Laws.

Business Member Requirements

Current Business Registration AU / Certificate of Incorporation NZ

Current Security Licence/Registration

For applicants operating in NSW, ACT, VIC, WA & QLD.

Current Insurance Certificate of Currency (Public & Product Liability)

Business Members are required to hold Public & Products Liability insurance to the level determined by the Board.

The current level of cover required is $20 million (Australia) and $5 million (New Zealand).

The MLAA has a preferred insurance partner, however, Business Members are free to use the insurer or broker of their choice.

QLD Security Firm Licence Audit

If you hold a Security Firm Licence in Queensland, you are required to complete a Security Firm Licence Audit every 3 years. 

If your business has been in operation for over 3 years, you'll be asked to provide details of your last audit.

Qualifications for Trade Qualified Nominee

One or more of the following must be provided:

      • Cert III or Cert IV security industry qualification (excluding a manpower qualification)
      • Master Locksmiths Trade Test
      • RPL/APL Certificate from a TAFE or RTO

The Trade Qualified Nominee for applicants from NSW, ACT, VIC, WA & QLD must hold an Individual Security Licence/Registration.

Individual Member Requirements

Employed in the Locksmithing and/or Associated Security Industry

Hold a recognised trade qualification

One or more of the following must be provided:

      • Cert III or Cert IV security industry qualification (excluding a manpower qualification)
      • Master Locksmiths Trade Test
      • RPL/APL Certificate from a TAFE or RTO.

Applicants from NSW, ACT, VIC, WA & QLD must hold an Individual Security Licence/Registration.

Hold appropriate individual Security Licence/Registration

Individual Members must hold and maintain an Individual Security Licence/Registration, if applicable in the jurisdiction in which the person carries on business.

Trade Member Requirements


Hold an ABN (Australian Business Number)

Operate as a supplier within the locksmithing industry
