An apprenticeship in Locksmithing is a great way to start a career in the security industry, and it offers the opportunity to train, study and earn an income at the same time.
This apprenticeship will assist you in gaining the skills and knowledge you will need for a long and rewarding career in this exciting and rapidly changing industry.
You will learn how to repair and install locks, and how locks work. You will learn how to cut keys using the very latest key cutting machines, and you will also learn to make a key by hand. You will learn how to open cars and doors, manipulate a safe, design a master key system, configure an alarm system, set up and install a CCTV system, and more.
When you successfully complete your Apprenticeship, you will have a Nationally recognised qualification that is held in high regard here and in many overseas countries.
You do not need a secondary school certificate or other qualification to be able to do an Apprenticeship. You can do an Apprenticeship if you are a school-leaver, re-entering the workforce, or as an adult worker simply wishing to change careers.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process for giving people credit for skills, knowledge and experience gained through working and learning.
It can be gained at any stage of their lives, through formal and informal learning, in Australia or overseas, through work or other activities such as volunteering.
An RPL is a great process for people who have been in the industry for a long time to obtain an official Trade qualification.
For additional information please contact any of the four TAFE institutes who offer courses in locksmithing.
Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) is a process that says experience does count when it comes to gaining a trade qualification.
It is especially suitable for mature learners who missed out on gaining an official Trade qualification when they were younger, and it can also help people skilled in more than one trade, or who trained outside of New Zealand, to get accredited.
In order to gain a National Certificate in Locksmithing you need to be assessed by Competenz.
For additional information please contact Competenz.
The MLAA Trade Test is an opportunity for Locksmiths and potential Business Members of the Association to get their knowledge and skills assessed.
Please visit the Events page for dates and further information.
