The Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia (MLAA) has been the peak body of the locksmithing industry for more than 35 years. We are a Not-for-Profit organisation providing a range of services to our industry, the general public, the Corporate and Government sectors, and around 1000 certified locksmiths in Australia and New Zealand.
Established as the Master Locksmiths’ Association Australia (N.S.W. Branch) by a group of passionate and like-minded locksmiths in 1967, the MLAA was incorporated as a National body in 1982. Today the Association is a resource hub, a lobbyist, a conduit to the TAFE system, a connector of industry suppliers for products and services, a marketer, a problem solver, and much more.
The MLAA is also an important contact point for the Corporate sector, as well as for Local and State Government Departments. We provide advice, help forge networks and connections, and make sure that our Members meet the highest of standards so they are able to provide the very best service to the wider public.
The primary role of the MLAA is to support and promote our Business Members, and to be the trustee and advocate for the ‘Master Locksmiths’ brand and its assets. We are proud to be able to provide our Business members with this well-known and protected trust badge.
This annual award honours the memory of the late John Andrew who was the Association’s inaugural Life Member and a winner of the A.L. Chantry Memorial Award for the Pursuit of Excellence. Eligible apprentices employed by MLAA Business members in Australia and New Zealand are invited to participate.
The test covers Picking, Impressioning, Lockfitting, Master Keying, Safe Diagnostics and Automative Locksmithing.
LSC, Silca aand ABUS continue to be major supporters of the Award, with the winner (and their Master) to receive a fully funded trip to Italy and Germany to visit the Silca & ABUS factories respectively.
